I missed the #meetup with #instadfw
You may have noticed my recent Instagram post about the Cathedral Guadalupe Fall Festival. It was being advertised as a #ThroughTheLens event and #CGFFInsta was being tagged. I follow several photographers on Instagram and one in particular mentioned the festival and a meetup there. I’ve never been to one so I didn’t know what to expect. The start time was 8 am but I show up about 8:30 and didn’t see anyone standing around with a camera (probably because I showed up at 8:30). Maybe it wasn't a group thing, but maybe a "come on out and enjoy" kind of thing.
So I start to walk around the festival and I get immersed in the event and enjoy everything about it. Food is getting prepared and it is starting to smell so good. So I’m walking around and notice that not many were walking around capturing the whole event. So I decided to capture a few shots that could tell a story about this cool event.
Everyone participating seems to be in a great mood even though it was cold and early. Vendors were here selling their goods and professionals were answering questions about services they offer. Pictures speak louder than my words so I’ll let my shots tell the story.
I walked around the event but then I ventured away into the rest of the Arts District to check out all the buildings and art work. I finally found a group that was taking pictures and they seemed to be led by an individual. Was this the meetup? I go ask what seemed like the person in charge. NOPE, it was a high school class. Well, I don’t know what happened to the group I was looking for but I got to enjoy the morning capturing the event. If it wasn’t for the meetup, I would never have shown up and been able to get my shots. Did I mention the food, I made sure to “contribute” my part and eat plenty.
I will continue to look for meetups. Maybe I’ll ask more questions next time and maybe I’ll show up on time. I’m always looking for people and places to photograph. Let me know if there is value I can provide for you.
